Community Events

George Mason University welcomes everyone to Mason Square for dynamic weekly programming and special events, open to the entire Mason and greater Arlington community. All are welcome and invited to participate in these free activities.

Mason Square is more than the buildings that surround it. Mason Square is a destination; a place to convene, gather, exchange ideas, and have fun. Yes, that’s right, have fun.

Outfitted with plenty of chairs and tables, as well as large umbrellas to keep you comfortable in the sun, the Plaza at Mason Square is the perfect outdoor space to meet a friend for coffee, take a break between classes, or participate in one of our many weekly programs and events.

Grab a friend or two (or make a new friend!) and play a board game from the Game Cart, stocked full of favorite games available for loan while you relax on the plaza. Or pass the time and enjoy the sunshine while playing corn hole, ping pong, giant Jenga, or jumbo Connect-4.  There is something for everyone.

With Au Bon Pain Café just steps inside Van Metre Hall and clean bathrooms down the hallway, we have all the elements for a comfortable respite from the hustle and bustle of your busy day.

The programming at Mason Square is designed with everyone in mind, from our community neighbors, current students, local businesses, and the curious passerby. Anyone who wants to be part of something new and exciting is welcome. Come check out our family-friendly and diverse offerings of programs, events, and pop-up shops designed to support, inspire, relax, learn, and just have fun.

All Mason Square Programs are free and open to the public! See our calendar above and click on any of the event and program links to learn more about specific programs and offerings.

If you have specific questions about programs/events or  ideas for programs and activities you’d like to see, please reach out to us at ularl@gmu.edu.
